What is a
Constructability Review?
A constructability review is one of the most cost-effective investments a construction program can make — and one of the most consistently underutilized. Conducted before a project breaks ground, a constructability review subjects design documents, specifications, and sequencing plans to scrutiny from experienced construction professionals who examine the project not from a design intent perspective, but from the perspective of the person who has to actually build it. The goal is to surface conflicts, ambiguities, and inefficiencies while they still exist only on paper, where they cost nothing to fix, rather than in the field, where every change carries a price tag in time, money, and contractor relationships.
Beyond error prevention, constructability reviews can also validate construction sequencing, confirm that specified materials and methods are achievable within the project schedule, and ensure that the design team's assumptions about site conditions and workforce capabilities reflect operational reality.
